Domain Name Ideas

Probably my least favorite part of starting a new website or blog is choosing a name for it. Ideally, you’ll want your website or blog name to match your domain name (example, Vital Dollar and vitaldollar.com) to make it as easy as possible for people to remember.

The challenge is, most of the .com domain name ideas you come up with will be already registered and unavailable. While you could use another domain extension (like .org or .net) or add hyphens to find a domain name that is available, I don’t recommend doing this. In order to make your domain easy to remember it should be a .com and it’s best to avoid hyphens.

That means that the best solution is to have LOTS of domain name ideas so you can find a good .com that is available.

I’m not very good at coming up with catchy domain names, so I’ve found that the easiest approach is to start with one of your main keywords, and then look for other words that you can add to it.

For example, when I was trying to come up with a name for this blog, I chose the keyword “dollar” and then looked for other words that I could use with it. I decided on VitalDollar.com because it was short, easy to remember, and I thought it captured the mission and purpose of the blog.

You probably already know a few of the most important or descriptive keywords for your website or blog, so that part is easy.

Next, if you have a list of words that could be paired with your keyword you are almost certain to find a good .com that is still available.

With that in mind, I put together this huge list of more than 500 words that can be used with one of your main keywords to create an ideal domain name. Some of the words work better before your keyword, others work better after your keyword, and some could be used before or after.

Regardless of what topic or niche your website or blog will cover, I’m sure this list can help if you are struggling to come up with a name. Simply browse through the list and see what stands out as being a good option to pair with one of your keywords.

When you’ve found a good domain name and you’re ready to move forward, see my article How to Start a Blog for step-by-step instructions that show how you can setup a blog in just a few minutes with no experience needed.
