What Is Webull?

Founded in 2017, Webull is an online trading platform and broker-dealer headquartered in New York. Webull is one of the largest investing platforms in the US, with 10+ million registered users. With Webull, you can access thousands of stocks, ETFs, and options from markets worldwide. Additionally, you’ll have access to real-time stock market data and quotes from 100+ of the most established exchanges – at no cost.

For experienced investors and day traders, Webull offers access to crypto investments, a paper trading environment, and multi-leg options orders – among other features – so you can take your trading to the next level. Webull remains one of very few zero-commission broker-dealers in the US, and to sign up all you need is a US residential address and taxpayer identification.

With Webull, you can build a diversified portfolio and access the most profitable investments – all from one place.

Webull supports thousands of stocks and ETFs from dozens of markets worldwide and offers free access to market data from 100+ exchanges, including the NYSE, NASDAQ, NSE, and HKEX. For more experienced traders, Webull offers access to crypto and US-based forex and futures contracts.

Best of all is that you can get started with as little as $5 – by purchasing fractional shares of your favorite stocks and ETFs.

When you sign up, you can choose between an individual cash or margin account or open an individual retirement account – traditional, Roth, or Rollover IRA. Keep in mind you’ll first need to create an individual account (cash or margin) before opening an IRA account.

Access Smart Trading Tools And 11+ Premade Trading Strategies

For experienced traders, Webull offers access to smart trading tools:

  • Customizable Option Chain

  • Multi-Leg Options Quotes

  • Paper Trading

  • Recurring Investments (for stocks and ETFs only)

With Recurring investments, you can take advantage of dollar cost averaging, one of the most successful investing strategies, and make scheduled investments automatically – no input from you is required after you set it up. You can choose from a daily, weekly, biweekly, or monthly schedule.

For more experienced investors, we recommend the Multi-leg options order. With this order, you can simultaneously buy and sell options, customize strike prices for each trade, set up an expiration date, choose from 11+ options trading strategies, and much more. Some of the most popular strategies include:

  • Single option

  • Covered stock

  • Straddle

  • Butterfly

  • Iron condor

You can also develop and try out new strategies safely in the paper trading environment. Within this environment, you have unlimited virtual cash plus access to real-time data quotes, indicators, and price alerts – the same tools available for live traders.

Most other online trading platforms charge additional fees for using their backtesting environment and real-time data feeds – not Webull. All Webull users have complimentary access to real-time market data and the paper trading environment.

Webull Fees

  • Commission Fees: Free

  • Stocks/ETFs Trading (SEC): 0.000008% of the trade (or $0.01, whichever is higher)

  • Stock/ETFs Trading (FINRA): 0.000145% of the trade

  • Options Trading Fee: $0.55 per contract

  • ACH Deposit/Withdrawal: Free

  • Wire Deposit/Withdrawal Fee: $8 per deposit & $25 per withdrawal

  • Wire Deposit/Withdrawal Fee (international): $12.5 per deposit & $45 per withdrawal

Webull doesn’t charge commissions on any of their trades – most of the fees come from mandatory regulatory fees set by the SEC and FINRA. Keep in mind some exchanges charge proprietary index option fees. For the full list of fees, we recommend checking the full list on the Webull website.

Do I Actually Own My Shares On Webull?

Yes – after you purchase shares through Webull, you are the sole owner of that share. You can transfer your positions to a different brokerage at any time. Webull doesn’t charge fees if you’re transferring stocks in; however, there’s a $75 fee per outgoing stock transfer.

How Do I Track My Dividends On Webull?

Tracking your dividend payment date on Webull is very easy. If you’re using the Webull app on desktop or mobile:

  • Open the app and log in to your account

  • Navigate to the Accounts tab

  • In the Banking window, click History

  • Change the filter from ‘All’ to ‘Dividend payment date’ or ‘Dividends records’

Keep in mind that to receive dividends, you must purchase the shares before the ex-dividend date. Webull doesn’t currently support automatic dividend reinvestment; all dividend payments are credited to your account’s cash balance. If you want to reinvest your Webull dividends, you’ll have to do it manually.

Is It Safe To Use Webull?

Yes – Webull is one of the most established online brokerages in the US, with more than 10 million registered users. Webull is registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).

Additionally, Webull is an active member of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC) and offers insurance for up to $500,000 (including $250,000 for cash claims).

Webull Reviews

The Webull app is available on Android and iOS devices, with an average rating of 4.3/5 and 4.7/5, respectively. Here’s what mobile users have to say about the app and their Webull account:

  • “Their research tools are great, their trading tools are great, all for free. They have add-ons, too, that add to the experience that you pay for. Cheap margin rates. I just switched from TD Ameritrade to this because it’s close to what they offer, but it’s free.” – A. G.

  • “To begin with, Webull is by far the best trading app, and their interface is stunning. You also can pay for extra perks to gain more data exposure for the user, which is why I love Webull.” – Leigh A.

  • “The Early Bird Gets The WormAs the title indicates, I really like Webull because it allows access to the market at the earliest of any trading applications out there (4:30 AM EDT)… I like the interface, very easy to understand, and highly appreciate the Live Quote area.” – Mr. Choudhury.

  • “Great app with awesome features. although at times, I feel like they are adding way too much. I referred a friend, and he was hesitant because he felt like it was a casino. it’s also getting a bit less intuitive like it used to be.” – Chantal B.

Do I Have To Pay Taxes On Free Stocks From Webull?

Yes – the free stocks you receive from Webull as part of their welcome bonus are taxable. You can report them as miscellaneous income using form 1099-MISC if they’re worth more than $600.
