Whether you want to start a side business or just make some extra money on the side, these tips will help you to get started. The key is finding the right situation for you. We’ve organized the suggestions into a few categories to make it easier.

How to Make $100 a Day with an Online Business

We’ll start by focusing on opportunities to start an online business that will generate 100 dollars per day or more. All of these online business models involve upfront work. You’ll need some patience before you start to see the rewards of your efforts, but the payoff will be worth it. All of these options offer excellent income potential.

1. Start a Blog or Niche Website

One popular way to make money online is to start your own blog or niche website. The terms “blog” and “niche website” can both be used to describe a content-based site that regularly publishes articles focused on a specific topic (we’re not talking about personal blogs here).

This method can be very lucrative if you choose the right niche and put in the work to grow your site. Once you have your site up and running, you can start monetizing it with advertising (including Google AdSense), affiliate marketing, publishing sponsored content, or selling products and services.

Of course, you’ll need to generate traffic before your site will start to make money, and that’s where you’ll need some patience. Google typically doesn’t start sending traffic to a new site right away, so it may be several months before you start to get any type of significant traffic. You can use social media and other traffic generation methods to get started faster, rather than waiting on Google.

Most new content-based websites don’t make very much money within the first six months or sometimes longer. However, if you stick with it, you’ll turn the corner and your site will have a chance to become very profitable. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone who wants to build an online business.

One of the reasons why I like and recommend building niche websites is because there’s a clear plan you can follow for success. It doesn’t matter if you have experience or not, generating profit with a niche site is very realistic if you’re willing to put in the work. And once you know how to do it, you can duplicate the process with multiple sites.

To get started, see my Guide to Building a Profitable Niche Website.

2. Start a YouTube Channel

Starting a YouTube channel is similar to starting a blog in some ways, but you’ll create video content instead of written articles. And with the massive growth in demand for video content, this is an opportunity with a bright future.

YouTube is a very popular way to make money online, and there are many successful YouTubers who are making a great living from their channels. However, it’s important to remember that it takes time and effort to build a successful channel (just like building a content-based website).

You’ll need to create high-quality content regularly and promote your channel in order to attract viewers. It can be a lot of work, but if you’re patient and consistent, you can achieve success with this business model.

YouTube channels can be monetized with ads through the YouTube Partner Program, direct sponsorships, affiliate marketing, or even selling your own product or service.

Building a profitable YouTube channel will require you to create a collection of videos, and it will take you a while to build that up. You shouldn’t expect to make much money for at least the first six months, but once you’ve got things rolling, your videos will generate revenue for you around the clock.

3. Start a Podcast

Podcasting is similar to starting a YouTube channel in that it’s all about creating content, but instead of video, you’ll be creating audio content. This is an excellent online business model for anyone who enjoys sharing their ideas with the world.

Like content-based websites and YouTube channels, podcasts can be monetized in a number of ways like advertising, sponsorships, affiliate marketing, or selling products and services.

Also like other content-based businesses, it will take some time to build up your audience. But once you do, you’ll be able to generate consistent revenue.

Podcasting could be an ideal option if you’re interested in a content-based business but you don’t like the idea of writing a lot of articles. With a podcast, you can even interview guests on your episodes. In that sense, you really don’t have to be an expert in the topic you’re discussing. If you’re interviewing experts, you can lean on their expertise.

You don’t need a lot of tools or expensive equipment to start a podcast. A simple laptop with a microphone is sufficient, although you may want to upgrade to a higher-quality mic once you’re making some money. Audacity is free software you can use to edit your audio files.

4. Sell Printables

Printables are digital products that people can buy, download, and print. They can be anything from planners to organizers to checklists and even stickers.

The best thing about selling printables is that you can create them once and then generate sales on autopilot. They’re relatively easy to create, so this is an online business you can start quickly. And since they’re digital products, there’s no need to worry about inventory or shipping costs.

Not a designer? Don’t worry. You can easily hire someone on sites like Upwork and Fiverr to design the printables for you.

To have success with printables, you’ll probably need to create a shop with a number of different products. A single printable on its own is not likely to make a huge amount of money unless it’s very unique. But with a shop full of different printables, and even bundles to increase the average order size, the total income will add up.

When it comes to selling your printables, there are a few options. The easiest way to get started is to sell on Etsy. Obviously, Etsy already has a huge audience, so you can get your product in front of potential customers quickly. However, there’s a lot of competition on Etsy and that tends to drive prices down. Your income potential will be higher if you create your own website to sell your printables.

Creating your own site may sound intimidating, but it’s really not that difficult. For example, you could use a solution like Podia to create a site that looks great and allows you to sell directly to your visitors.

5. Create an Online Course

If you have experience or expertise in a particular topic, you can create an online course and sell it. This is an excellent online business model for anyone who wants to share their knowledge with the world.

Creating an online course requires you to put in some time upfront to create the content and ensure that it’s of high quality. But once you’ve created the course, it can be sold on autopilot with unlimited income potential.

To market your course and generate sales, you can promote it on your own website or blog (if you have one), share it on social media, use paid traffic and ads, or start an affiliate program and get others to promote it for you.

Want to maximize your income? Create a few different courses that target the same or similar audiences. You can even create courses at different price points. Use an inexpensive course to attract a lot of buyers, and then offer a higher-priced course as an upsell or after students have completed the first course.

If you don’t want to start your own website, you could offer your course through a platform like Udemy or Skillshare. However, starting your own site and selling the course independently will give you the best income potential. Setting your course and a website to sell it is easy with Teachable or Podia.

6. Start a Print-on-Demand Business

Print-on-demand is a great online business model for t-shirts, mugs, notebooks, and other physical merchandise. It’s relatively easy to get started because you don’t need to worry about inventory or shipping costs. All you need is a design (or several designs) that customers can order for the products they buy.

While this is an ideal option for graphic designers, you don’t need design skills to have success with a print-on-demand business. You can use resources from websites like Creative Fabrica or Vexels to simplify the design process, or you can hire a freelancer to do the design work.

To start your own print-on-demand business, you can use a service like Printful. All you need to do is create the graphic design, upload it to their platform, and they’ll handle everything else – printing, shipping, and customer service. Printful also integrates nicely with Shopify, so you can easily have your own professional website to sell your products.

Alternatively, you can also sell print-on-demand with marketplaces like Merch by Amazon, Redbubble, and CafePress. However, your income potential with marketplaces will be limited, so if you want to make $100 a day, you’re much better off starting your own website.

To get started, check out From Design to Product: Sell Your Art Online Through Print on Demand.

7. Sell on Amazon

There are several different ways to make money online by selling on Amazon. You could buy and resell used products, buy new products on sale and resell them (retail arbitrage), buy wholesale products and resell them, or create your own private label brand. The private label approach is my favorite because you don’t have to constantly look for new products to sell, and it’s possible to make a decent profit margin on each sale.

My wife and I ran a private label business selling on Amazon for about two years before eventually selling the brand for a six-figure sum.

You’ll need to start by choosing a product to sell. You want to find a product that has demand from buyers where you think you could provide a better product than what’s currently out there. Next, you’ll find a manufacturer or supplier who will create the product and put your branding on it.

When you’re product is ready, you’ll have the inventory shipped to Amazon’s warehouses to use their Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) services. This means that Amazon will fulfill and ship the orders to customers so you don’t have to deal with that aspect of the business. It also allows Prime members to get free shipping when they buy your product.

It’s possible to make $100 a day with a single product, but if you really want to build a business, you can add other products and develop your brand.

The best part about this business model is that it can be somewhat passive since you’re outsourcing the manufacturing, order fulfillment, and some of the customer service (Amazon provides customer service for issues related to shipping if you’re using FBA).

8. Start an E-Commerce Business

Selling on Amazon presents an outstanding opportunity, but you’re also highly dependent on Amazon if you’re only selling on their platform. You can also sell your products on your own website so you’re not dependent on Amazon. Or you could sell only on your own site if you want to skip Amazon altogether.

Building your own e-commerce site isn’t as complicated as you might think. Thanks to Shopify, anyone can create an online store that looks and functions professionally and accepts credit card payments.

Of course, selling on your own site rather than on Amazon requires you to build your audience. You’ll need a traffic strategy, which could involve blog content and SEO, social media marketing, or paid traffic (Facebook ads, Google ads, etc.). You’ll also need some patience and a willingness to put in the work.

Get started with a 14-day free trial of Shopify. And to learn how to build your business, see Shopify E-Commerce Websites for Beginners and Freelancers.

9. Self-Publishing

Did you know that anyone can publish a book on Amazon? Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) makes it possible for you to earn good money by self-publishing your book or e-book.

This business model is appealing because it doesn’t cost anything to get started. You can write the book yourself and upload it to Amazon for no cost. After it’s uploaded and the listing is created, Amazon will handle everything else – printing, shipping, and customer service.

It’s possible to make 100 dollars a day with Kindle publishing, but it will take some time and effort to build up your sales. This business model is best suited for people who are patient and willing to put in the work upfront.

Alternatively, you could hire a ghostwriter if you don’t want to take the time to write the book yourself. Hiring writers can also help you to crank out more books, which will significantly increase your earning potential.

For a comprehensive guide to self-publishing, see From First Draft to Bestseller.

10. Sell on Etsy

If you’re creative and enjoy working with your hands, opening an Etsy shop could be the perfect business for you. Etsy is a marketplace specifically for handmade and vintage items, as well as art and craft supplies.

Getting started with Etsy is easier than you might think. If you have a product to sell, you could create your shop in less than an hour.

Making $100 a day on Etsy will require some work, but it’s certainly possible if you have a shop with high-quality products. The key is to stand out from the competition and build a strong brand.

The downside of this business model is that you’ll need to constantly create the products that you sell. I prefer businesses that sell digital products because you can create them once and sell them over and over.

To get started, see Sell on Etsy – How to Open a Successful Etsy Shop.

How to Make $100 a Day By Offering Services

Now, let’s shift our focus and look at services you can offer to start making extra cash. Service-related businesses are often overlooked in favor of the types of online businesses listed above. However, offering a service is often the fastest and most practical way to start making quick money.

11. Freelance Writing

If you enjoy writing, you could make a part-time or full-time income from freelance writing. You can work from anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection, and there are opportunities to write on just about any topic you can imagine.

It’s possible to work as a general freelance writer and create content about anything and everything, but taking a specialized approach will increase your income potential. As a specialist, you’ll be able to brand yourself as an expert and many clients will be willing to pay a higher price for your services.

To find your first client, you can check freelance writing job boards, join freelance writing Facebook groups, work on your LinkedIn profile, network with others in your chosen area of focus, or directly reach out to websites and blogs that publish articles from freelance writers.

Writing is one of the best services you can offer as a freelancer and one of the best work-from-hoe jobs, in my opinion, because many of your clients will have ongoing work. Blogs and websites need new content all the time, so there are a lot of gigs for writing new articles every month, week, or day. Once you land a few recurring clients, you won’t need to spend your valuable time looking for new clients.

12. Photography

Offering your services as a photographer in your local area is an excellent side hustle, and it has the potential to produce more than 100 dollars a day. You could photos of families, newborns, engaged couples, seniors, sports teams, and more. Wedding photography is also very lucrative, but it’s an intense job with a lot of pressure, so it’s best to get experience with other types of photography first.

To market your services, you can start by talking to people you know. Your family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, and other contacts are likely to hire a photographer from time to time, so simply working your natural network is an ideal way to start. You can also use social media. For example, after you’ve worked with a client, post their pictures to Facebook (get their permission first) and tag them so their family and friends see the pictures and a message about your services.

Aside from services, you can also make money by selling prints or stock photos. Popular stock marketplaces like Shutterstock are very competitive, but making a small amount of passive income each month from your photos is a realistic goal.

13. Pick Up Trash

While it may not be the first type of service-related business that comes to mind, and it may not be the most glamorous, starting a trash cleanup business is an excellent opportunity. Sometimes doing the jobs others don’t want to do will give you the best earning power.

This creative way of making money involves cleaning up litter from parking lots of retail stores, strip malls, office complexes, apartment buildings, and businesses. Property managers need to keep the parking lots clean, and they’re often willing to pay you to do the work for them.

Brian Winch started a trash cleanup business in the 1980s as a side hustle, and he quickly replaced the income from his full-time job. He’s been making six figures per year ever since.

In Cleanlots, Brian shares the exact approach he uses to run what he refers to as “America’s simplest business”. By following along with Brian’s guide, you can start your own trash cleanup business part-time and grow it to a full-time income. You can also hire others to do the work for you if you prefer.

One of the reasons why this type of business is appealing is because just about anyone can do it. You don’t need any special skills or experience, and Cleanlots provides you with the training you need.

14. Become a Transcriptionist

If you’re fast and accurate when typing, working as a transcriptionist could be an ideal way to make money. You can transcribe audio files from doctor’s offices, courtrooms, business meetings, podcast episodes, online videos, and more. Once you get started, earning $100 per day is pretty easy.

To get started as a transcriptionist, you’ll need to find clients. You can do this by using websites that provide transcription jobs, or find your own clients and work on a freelance basis. Freelancing gives you the best income potential, but using transcription websites is the easiest way to start.

Transcription can be done full-time or part-time, and most of the gigs are extremely flexible. Generally, you can do the work whenever it fits into your schedule.

15. Become a Virtual Assistant

Virtual assistants (VAs) can offer a wide range of services, such as managing email, scheduling appointments, making travel arrangements, editing blog posts, moderating forums or Facebook groups, managing social media profiles, and more.

Virtual assistants are in high demand and finding work is relatively easy. There are many companies/websites that offer virtual assistant jobs by matching clients with VAs. Getting started with these gigs is easy, but the pay usually isn’t the best. Freelancing and finding your own clients is the best way to maximize your income.

Check with people you know to see if they have any need for a VA, and also build your network through LinkedIn. Building your client base will take a little time, but if you do high-quality work, you’ll retain many of your clients for a long time.

Working as a VA is kind of similar to freelance writing. You could take a generalist approach and do anything for any client, or you could specialize. Taking a specialized approach will allow you to demand higher rates and help you to brand yourself as the go-to VA for a particular service. For example, you could specialize in Instagram and help clients by managing and growing their Instagram profiles.

16. Become a Delivery Driver

If you’re willing to do a little bit of driving, you could make money by becoming a delivery driver. There are many different companies that offer delivery services, and they’re always looking for new drivers to add to their teams.

Once you’re signed up with a company, they’ll give you delivery instructions whenever there’s an order in your area. You can choose to accept or decline the order, and if you accept it, you’ll have to pick up the food/items and deliver them to the customer.

Most delivery companies allow you to set your own schedule, so it’s easy to work this gig around your other commitments.

If you’re looking for quick money, working as a delivery driver is an excellent option. You can sign up for DoorDash or Instacart and start making money within just a few days.

17. Consulting

If you have existing skills or experience that others could benefit from, you could start a consulting business.

Consulting is a great way to make money because you can charge high hourly rates and make the most of your time. If you have the right skills, consulting can be highly lucrative.

You can work as a consultant part-time or full-time. It’s the type of business that works well when you start small and slowly work your way up by expanding your client base.

To start a consulting business, the first step is to identify your area of expertise. Once you know what you can offer, you’ll need to find clients who are willing to pay for your services. The best way to do this is by networking (in person or on LinkedIn) or by using online platforms like Upwork and Fiverr.

18. Work as a Handyman/Handywoman

If you’re handy around the house and have a knack for fixing things, you could start a business as a handyman or handywoman.

There is always a demand for people who can do odd jobs and fix things, so this could be a great way to make money in your spare time. And just as importantly, you can earn a nice hourly rate (many handymen charge around $40 per hour).

You can start by advertising your services on platforms like Craigslist or by word-of-mouth. It will take some time to build up your business, but it works well as a part-time side hustle.

For more details, please read How to Start Handyman Business.

19. Start a Cleaning Business

If you don’t mind getting your hands dirty, starting a cleaning business could be a great way to make money. There are always people who need help cleaning their homes or businesses, and you can easily get started by offering your services on platforms like Craigslist or Care.com.

You don’t need a lot of specific skills or experience to get started, and you won’t need to invest a lot of money in equipment. You probably already have most of the things you’ll need to start, like a vacuum cleaner, broom, mop, rags, bucket, etc.

To be successful as a cleaning professional, it’s important to be efficient and to offer a high level of customer service. If you can do this, you’ll be in high demand and can easily start making 100 dollars per day.

20. Participate in Focus Groups

Focus groups are a great way to make extra income, and they can often be done from the comfort of your own home. A focus group is a research study where you give your opinion on a product or service.

The company conducting the focus group will usually pay you for your participation, and you can earn anywhere from $50 to $200 per session.

For more, see How to Make Extra Money with Paid Focus Groups.

21. Pet Sitting

If you love animals and don’t mind taking care of them while people are out of town, starting a pet sitting business could be a great way to make money.

Pet sitting is an excellent business because it’s relatively easy to get started and it’s in high demand. People are always looking for someone to watch their pets while they’re away, and you can easily get started by advertising your services on platforms like Rover or Care.com.

Providing overnight services to pet owners who are traveling is an ideal way to boost your income. Also, you can offer dog walking services for an additional charge.

22. Social Media Marketing

Social media marketing is a great way to make money, and it’s only getting more popular. As a social media marketer, you’ll be responsible for managing social media accounts and creating content that promotes a brand or simply encourages engagement from followers.

You can start by finding businesses that need help with their social media presence and offering your services. Once you’ve built up a portfolio of clients, you can easily start making $100 per day.

If you want to earn even more money, you can specialize in creating and managing ad campaigns for clients. Many small business owners would like to advertise on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Google, but they don’t know how to set up ad campaigns. As an ad manager, you’ll be able to charge a premium if you’re able to get results for your clients.

For more details, see Run Your Social Media Marketing Business.

23. Invest in the Stock Market

Investing in the stock market has become a popular side hustle over the past few years thanks to commission-free trading platforms like Public.com and Webull.

If you want to generate income from your investments, focusing on dividend stocks is one of the best options. Dividend stocks are stocks that pay out regular dividends, and they can provide you with a passive income stream, or the dividends can be reinvested.

To get started, you’ll need to open up an account with a broker like Public.com or Webull and deposit some money. Once you’ve done that, you can start buying and selling stocks. Conveniently, Public.com provides a list of dividend stocks through their investing Themes. Themes are essentially lists of investment opportunities that fit into a particular category.

Of course, investing always comes with risk. However, investing in dividend stocks with a long-term buy-and-hold approach is generally considered to be less risky than the stock market as a whole because these companies are very well established. Still, you should do your own due diligence before investing and only invest money that you can afford to lose.

To diversify your portfolio and reduce risk, you can buy the stocks of several different companies rather than investing in just a single company. This is easy with Public.com or Webull because you can buy fractional shares. That means even if you have only $100 to start with, you can still invest in several different companies.

24. Invest in Real Estate

Investing in rental properties is another excellent way to make money passively. rental properties can provide you with a steady stream of income, and they’re relatively easy to manage if you hire a professional property manager.

Real estate crowdfunding platforms like Fundrise allow you to invest in a portfolio of income-generating properties without having to put down a large amount of money upfront (start with as little as $10). That makes Fundrise a great option for people who don’t have a lot of money to invest but still want to get started in the real estate market.

Another option is investing in REITs, which are similar to mutual funds that invest in income-generating properties. You can buy REIT and real estate ETFs through online brokerages like Public.com or Webull.

Investing in real estate is a proven and time-tested way to build wealth. Many millionaires and billionaires have made their fortunes in real estate. But thanks to the options mentioned above, investing in real estate isn’t only for the wealthy.

25. Start a Rental Business

Starting a rental business is an underrated way to generate passive income. Yes, there is some work involved, but your work will be limited. You’ll be making money mostly due to the assets that you’re renting out, not because of your time or effort.

There are several different things you can rent out. It really just depends on what you have available.

If you have an RV or camper, you can join RVshare and start renting it out to people who want to travel but don’t have their own RV. This is a great way to earn some extra money, and it’s especially convenient if you live near popular tourist destinations. This is extremely lucrative and you can make very good money without too much effort.

How to Make $100 a Day with Small Tasks

You won’t be able to earn $100 per day consistently with any of the individual options listed in this section, but you can combine a few opportunities to make good money. The best thing about these opportunities is that anyone can do them, regardless of your specific experience or skills.

26. Take Online Surveys

There are many different websites that will pay you to take surveys. This is a great way to make some extra cash in your spare time, and completing a paid survey doesn’t require any special skills or experience. Just sign up for a few different websites and start taking surveys.

A few of the most popular online survey sites include:

27. Microtasking

Microtasking is similar to taking online surveys, but instead of answering questions, you’ll be completing small tasks. These tasks can be anything from watching videos and providing feedback to organizing data.

There are many different websites where you can find microtasks, but some of the most popular include:

28. Share Your Data

There are several low-effort apps that pay you for gaining access to your browsing data. This data is used for market research and personal details are not collected.

You won’t get rich with any of these apps, but they’re extremely easy to use and you’ll earn some rewards (like a gift card) on top of your efforts with the other tasks covered in this section. Some of the best passive income apps for easy money include:

29. Play Games

Believe it or not, you can actually make money by playing games. Again, you’re not going to make piles of money with this method, but it all adds up. Some of the best apps that allow you to make money with games include:

30. Donate Plasma
